S.T.A.R.: Steps to Atonement and Redemption
The title of this project has been chosen quite deliberately.
The decision to commit a crime and take a life begins with a single step. These
are the steps of anger, fear, desperation and hopelessness. These steps must
be redirected as steps forward to peace, harmony, self-control and discipline:
the Steps to Atonement and Redemption.
STAR AIMS TO AIDE THE FOLLOWING CHARITIES
IN THEIR EFFORTS TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE
CHANGE WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES.
From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation
Based in London and Birmingham,
the charity runs educational, self-development and social fabric development programmes. It aims to empower young people to change
their negative lifestyles by caring for them. They believe that this is
love in action, which is a positive example of adulthood.
Yaa Asantewaa Nanny Project
Based in Birmingham, this is the charitable arm of the African Caribbean Self Help Organisation (ACSHO). ACSHO is a community based organisation formed in 1964, which provides a broad range of specialist services-advice and support to individuals.
We also believe that part of our
work is going to be about creating something new. Many of the existing structures have failed or are failing and so support is equally needed for new projects that work on the root causes which blight our cities. We will work with experienced professionals and earmark funds to support a new innovative initiative,
the "100 Mother's Movement".
100 Mothers Movement
This is a new initiative, which asks women-the mothers of the community, and the first teachers of the youth affected by knife and gun crime to contribute financially to support community programmes that will ensure the welfare of the generation to come. It also aims to act as a forum for one voice and one community, circulating information and promoting community businesses.
This money will be used to promote
the ethos of responsibility and self -determination.
